Joaquim Muchanessa D. Nhampoca is a Junior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology of Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo, where he lives. In 2001 he finished his BSc in Social Sciences at UEM. Two years later he got his degree in Sociology at the same University. In 2009 he was awarded an MSc in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of UEM.
Joaquim has been engaged in different online courses such as Sustainable Development (Columbia University), Community Change in Public Health (Johns Hopkins University), Rights of the Child (Ombudsman for Children, Stockholm) and Crime and Violence Prevention (Wits University).
Since 2005 Joaquim has been lecturing Sociology of Environment and African Sociology at the Department of Sociology. In March 2015 he launched a book titled Idosos, Mendigos? Não! (Elderly, Beggars? No!).
