FSM platform

Financer: Submitted to ViaWater and pre-approved

We developed a proposal for a digital Feacal Sludge Management (FSM) platform after the realization that the faecal sludge sector in Maputo urgently requires investment and improvement. The concept was discussed both with several stakeholders in Maputo and with potential donors and the feedback was always positive – in fact, the proposal was pre-approved by ViaWater. The platform could be, in our opinion, an instrument to address some of the problems that we have identified in the Mozambican capital.

In the absence of a local project owner and due to our own logistical constraints we decided not to hand-in the full proposal. For future reference and to support other researchers and practitioners that wish to pursue this idea we are sharing the two working documents that we produced in the context of project – the proposal to ViaWater and a preliminary description of the operation of the platform. Please understand these documents as working versions and personal views from the researchers of TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam that would have been further improved in close collaboration with local stakeholders.
